ACRE is unique as a composite building materials that you can STAIN to match your project and achieve a great natural wood look.
- When staining ACRE products, it’s critical to choose the right color and stain type for ACRE to perform as expected and to avoid the effects of excessive expansion and contraction, especially with outdoor applications. ACRE does not absorb stains as typical wood products do.
- Choose a water-based stain color with a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of 55 or greater, or from our approved stains list below. For any other color with an LRV below 55 or if you are not sure, contact us for help and approval for use.
- For the best results, we recommend applying stains on a smooth flat surface. ACRE products may be finished after installation, however the viscosity of the paint could result in an uneven appearance if not monitored closely.
ACRE with PPG 897 IR Technology Signature Stain Series
ACRE has partnered with PPG to approve 7 signature stains formulated in their Proluxe product, specially made with IR reflective coatings to mitigate excessive heat build up which could occur with other stains.
Stains are available by special order or with participating partners. Refer to the instructions below to order.

Stains must be factory mixed, as infrared (IR) technology is not available for in-store mixing under any circumstances. Factory mixing ensures precise and consistent color formulations, and attempting to mix these stains in-store may result in color variations and performance issues.
